Sami Ullah, an Indian executive, feels mysteriously drawn to the ruined mansion. But his move to Purfiza plunges him into a complex political mess outside his doors, and a bewitching romance within. A beautiful shape-shifting ghost claims him as her lost love. She lures him inexorably into a world of royal tyranny, colonial greed, ethnic strife, and deathless love unresolved for more than 150 years.

Dinner with the Dead Shahzad Rizvi 9781300691204 Books

Dinner with the Dead is not your usual tale of ghosts and specters, though it is as spooky as others if it's genre.
Instead it is a story of fate and the idea that love exists beyond the confines of time that we hold heard.
Love is proved to be timeless in Dinner with the Dead, a story that is full of the symbolism of Indian culture and the magic of eastern and western fairy tales.
But like love transcends time so does deep seated hatred, and Rizvi draws a comparison between the intolerance and greed of today and that of the past as the protagonists struggle to find the time and place they belong in.
In Dinner with the Dead Rizvi weaves a tale of hope for all star crossed lovers and promises them that everyone can find a happy ending if they are willing to think beyond that which they are told is real and acceptable in society.

Dinner with the Dead Shahzad Rizvi 9781300691204 Books Reviews

The ghost in this page-turner is a mischievous Indian beauty whose most recent incarnation began in the 1850s. Her story, and that of the love of her life--or is that "lives"?--swings back and forth between the India of the 19th century British raj and the India of today (with a few side trips to England for political consultations). "Dinner with the Dead" tells the tale of how the two charmers met, how they fell in love, how they were separated, and finally how they were reunited. Along with an inventive and quick-moving plot, "Dinner with the Dead" offers easily-digestible mini-lessons in Indian history and Hindu theology. A fast, entertaining read, with just enough substance to assuage any guilt a serious reader may feel in the enjoyment of this witty and well-told novel.
This book is a most entertaining read. Set in India it jumps between the late 1800"s and present day. The love story develops in the 1800's and we get to see how it affects present day Sam as he follows his dream of owning a home and starting his own business. The supernatural plays a part because of course his lady love is a ghost who lives in the home. The reader learns of life in old India and the author draws such truly awful bad guys that one rejoices when they get what is coming to them. The book is a quick read but it will draw you in quickly, catch your interest and be difficult to put down as you follow it to a most satisfactory conclusion.
