Some borders should never be crossed. From the author of The Beast of Barcroft comes a waking nightmare of a horror novel that’s sure to thrill readers of Stephen King and Bentley Little.

Ex–Delta Force Davis Holland, now an agent for the Customs and Border Protection, has seen it all. But nothing in his experience has prepared him for what he and the local sheriff find one freezing night in the Minnesota woods.

Investigating reports of an illegal border crossing, the two men stumble across a blood-drenched scene of mass murder, barely escaping with their lives . . . and a single clue to the mayhem a small wooden chest placed at the heart of the massacre. Something deadly has entered Holland’s territory, crossing the border from nightmare into reality.

When news of the atrocity reaches wealthy cryptozoologist Richard Severance, he sends a three-person team north to investigate. Not long ago, the members of that team—Ben McKelvie, Lindsay Clark, and Alex Standingcloud—were nearly killed by a vengeful shapeshifter. Now they are walking wounded, haunted by gruesome memories that make normal life impossible. But there is nothing normal about the horror that awaits in the Northwoods.

Praise for Northwoods

Northwoods The Fatal Folklore Trilogy Book 2 eBook Bill Schweigart

First I'll say that I am not normally a fan of the horror genre; however, I've read some from King and Koontz, but I found that I preferred Steven Bannister's DCI St. Clair series (in moderation lol) that has a supernatural twist. I also love Joseph Heywood's Woods Cop mysteries. Schweigart's book popped up while I was looking for a Heywood book. I read the description and decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did. Again, given that I'm a horror story novice, I found myself rather stressed out while reading this. Maybe it would be "old-hat" to frequent readers of the genre, but I was on the edge of my seat and had to remind myself to blink. I enjoyed the characters and setting, and the dialogue occasionally startled a chuckle out of me.

The blood and gore weren't too graphic (this is one of the main reasons I don't read or watch the horror genre). It can be very disturbing to me, but it didn't seem overly gratuitous.

Of course, I may never go kayaking or hiking alone ever again, but I still enjoyed it.

Northwoods The Fatal Folklore Trilogy Book 2 eBook Bill Schweigart Reviews

Did not expect how good this book was gonna be. Drew me in instantly and held me there the whole ride. At times I was freaked out going to the bathroom at night bc this book gave me the chills. I am very picky when it comes to my books and it takes a lot to impress me but this book did it. This author is extremely talented and did an amazing job. I felt like I was really there and like I really knew the characters. Will definitely be reading other books by Bill Schweigart. Thank u for an awesome read!
Besides the characters that you feel you know, and the horror of the attackers, there is humor that made me laugh out loud several times. I appreciate the fact that this author can relate an engrossing story of suspense, using comedic relief to make the characters even more lifelike. I'm for more tales like this one. Thank you, Mr. Schweigart!
I didn't read the first book in the series but the author supplied enough background that I had a sense of what had transpired in the first.
Very good story, lots of action, nice flow to story. Believable characters that you cared about, even though not all survived. No spoilers. Recommend this book.
Another author that reaches of the page and grabs you by the front of your shirt and won't let go. This book is so well researched and written that it will enthrall any reader, regardless of how intellectual they may be. Mister Schweigart interweaves the Occult with Native American folklore and middle eastern folklore as well. He does this so successfully that the story never stumbles but runs away with threader. I absolutely loved this tale.
Mr.Schweitzer has written an excellent book here. Like his previous book "The Beast of Barcroft, the same characters appear in most of it and they are even more believable as they deal with a reality that should not exist. You would be half crazy too if you were facing things that are straight out of a nightmare; your worst nightmare. A storyline that combines horror, Native American mythology and just plain psychologist suspense and will make you want to keep the lights on all night. This is a outstanding read if you like being almost scared to death. I hope there will be much more to come in this series and thanks to the author for making his books available to us as Unlimited so we can enjoy them. Bravo Author Bravo.
Northwoods is expertly-crafted new novel by Bill Schweigart, and I especially recommend reading Beast of Barcroft first. Both books are outstanding, so why not? The unique mix of characters from the Beast of Barcroft reunite to investigate after a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent and the local sheriff witness a bizarre incident in the snow-covered north woods of Wisconsin. The enhanced character development from the first book to the second is welcome and the author has thoroughly researched the history of the local Indian culture, which is one of the most interesting aspects of the book. There are a lot of scary books out there that involve supernatural creatures and events, but Schweigart has used interesting folklore as an avenue to bring them to life. When the mysterious box spews forth its contents it brings to mind a portal to parallel universe, but I like that the story remained true to the folklore instead of dragging Einstein and quantum physics into the mix. There is room for more exploration of the truth behind these events in future books, and I can't wait to read the next one! This book is well written and imaginative, and if you enjoy this genre this one is a home run.
I bought and read Beast of Barcroft, so when I saw the sequel was released, I bought it. I finally got around to read it. The characters from the first book, Ben McKelvie, Lindsay Clark, and Alex Standingcloud, along with wealthy cryptozoologist Richard Severance, returned for this one. This time, Richard sends Ben and Lindsay to Bayfield, Wisconsin. This is where Alex came from, from the Red Cliff reservation. He meets them there, as he had been convalescing there after the beast from Barcroft. Mysterious sightings of something in the woods and lurking in the water have reached Richard's ears. When they get there, they see that Maddie is the area's Loch Ness monster that lives in the lake and they sort of laugh it off, thinking that maybe Richard sent them on some hunt for something more fantasy than real like the monster from the first book. Meanwhile, Customs and Border Protection agent Davis Holland and the sheriff of nearby Barnabus, Gil, had their own weird run in with something supernatural where men are found almost eaten, something big nearly ran down them in the woods, and a chest is at ground zero. A chest that Davis locks up and takes with him. Soon by all parties involved, they wonder if more than one monster is terrorizing the region.

There's nothing better than a good old monster horror novel to pass the time. And just like the first book, Bill Schweigart delivers the goods. lock, stock, and scare. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
